Ingredients
Scale
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 2 large eggs
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/2 cup milk
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease an 8-inch round cake pan.
- In a medium bowl, sift together the flour, baking powder, and salt. Set aside.
- In a small saucepan, heat the milk and butter together until the butter is completely melted. Remove from heat and set aside.
- In a large mixing bowl, beat the eggs and sugar until light and fluffy, about 4-5 minutes.
- Gradually add the dry ingredients to the egg mixture, mixing just until incorporated.
- Slowly blend in the hot milk and melted butter mixture and the vanilla extract.
- Pour the batter into the prepared cake pan.
- Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
- Let the cake cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
Notes
- For added flavor, a pinch of nutmeg or cinnamon can be mixed with the dry ingredients.
- This cake serves as a great base for various frostings and toppings, such as fresh fruit, whipped cream, or a simple dusting of powdered sugar.
