  • Total Time: 1 hour
  • Yield: 8 servings 1x

Ingredients

Scale

For the filling:

  • 6 large apples, peeled, cored, and sliced
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 tsp ground nutmeg
  • 2 tbsp all-purpose flour
  • 1 tbsp lemon juice

For the crumble topping:

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 3/4 cup rolled oats
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1/2 cup (1 stick) unsalted butter, melted

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine the sliced apples, 1/2 cup granulated sugar, 1 tsp cinnamon, nutmeg, 2 tbsp flour, and lemon juice. Toss to coat the apples evenly and pour into a greased 9×13 inch baking dish.
  3. In another bowl, mix together 1 cup flour, rolled oats, 1/2 cup granulated sugar, brown sugar, 1/2 tsp cinnamon, and salt. Add the melted butter and mix until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  4. Sprinkle the crumble topping evenly over the apple mixture.
  5. Bake in the preheated oven for about 45 minutes, or until the topping is golden brown and the apples are tender when pierced with a fork.
  6. Let the apple crumble cool slightly before serving. It can be served warm or at room temperature, ideally with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or a dollop of whipped cream.

Notes

  • For a gluten-free version, substitute all-purpose flour with a gluten-free flour blend and ensure the oats are certified gluten-free.
  • You can adjust the amount of sugar based on the sweetness of the apples and your personal preference.
  • This apple crumble stores well in the refrigerator for up to 3 days and can be reheated in the oven or microwave.
