Ingredients
Scale
For the filling:
- 6 large apples, peeled, cored, and sliced
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 1 tsp ground cinnamon
- 1/2 tsp ground nutmeg
- 2 tbsp all-purpose flour
- 1 tbsp lemon juice
For the crumble topping:
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 3/4 cup rolled oats
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 1/2 cup brown sugar
- 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon
- 1/4 tsp salt
- 1/2 cup (1 stick) unsalted butter, melted
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
- In a large mixing bowl, combine the sliced apples, 1/2 cup granulated sugar, 1 tsp cinnamon, nutmeg, 2 tbsp flour, and lemon juice. Toss to coat the apples evenly and pour into a greased 9×13 inch baking dish.
- In another bowl, mix together 1 cup flour, rolled oats, 1/2 cup granulated sugar, brown sugar, 1/2 tsp cinnamon, and salt. Add the melted butter and mix until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
- Sprinkle the crumble topping evenly over the apple mixture.
- Bake in the preheated oven for about 45 minutes, or until the topping is golden brown and the apples are tender when pierced with a fork.
- Let the apple crumble cool slightly before serving. It can be served warm or at room temperature, ideally with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or a dollop of whipped cream.
Notes
- For a gluten-free version, substitute all-purpose flour with a gluten-free flour blend and ensure the oats are certified gluten-free.
- You can adjust the amount of sugar based on the sweetness of the apples and your personal preference.
- This apple crumble stores well in the refrigerator for up to 3 days and can be reheated in the oven or microwave.
